Company History
In the mid 80's Robert Diefendorf developed a new type of protective coating, a space age fluoropolymer designed to last 20-30 years.

Bob's 32 ft Chris Craft boat full of teak caused him to develop the first product (Teak Shield now Superior Shield) to protect the wood, as re-oiling teak every 60-90 days was tedious, time consuming job. He decided that there had to be a better way. As he says " Laziness is the mother of invention". He then researched the Marine industry and found that a product that would last a year would revolutionize the boating industry, his product far exceeded even that time line. After two years of development, Robert and his wife Marion founded the company known as Shield Products.

After successfully selling Teak Shield to the Marine Industry for about eight years he moved on into other areas developing a coating to preserve brass, copper, stainless steel, silver and many other metals. This coating totally prevents tarnish, rusting or corrosion. Through this development we now have coatings for all types of substrates including concrete and fiberglass.

With these developments Shield Products continues to grow. We sell to theme parks, water parks, manufacturers, pool builders, construction companies, and many other companies and industries around the world. We now have over 25 years of real progress!
