Any type of wood can be coated. The only restriction is that it be dry, below 12% moisture content. You can achieve a high class gloss or flat colored look using pressure treated lumber. The only issue with PT lumber is moisture content. Installation instructions for Ipe is here. Our Super Shield product is naturally clear but you can add a flattener to achieve a satin look. The deck photos below are satin. We can add any color you want and performance is not degraded for $55 per gallon. Ipe is a tropical hardwood that is very expensive and folks who spend this kind of money would like to keep it looking like it is out of the crate. In today's marketplace your choices are UV inhibiting penetrating oils. Super Shield will keep your Ipe or other tropical deck looking like a fresh rain wet look for 5+ years before any additional maintenance.

The below photos are of a newly coated Ipe deck in Indiana. The deck and accessories were primed with Fluoroblend and then top coated with Superior Shield. We have found that sealing with Fluoroblend reduces the cost of installation and you can usually achieve a 2 mil wet top coat of Superior Shield easier. The key is to apply a 2 mil wet top coat of Superior Shield to achieve the maximum UV protection. This product spent over a year and a half in low orbit on the space station in a US Navy test. The Navy's TESA label returned to earth in the same shape that it left.
