Superior Shield Proves Durability
On Space Station
05/03/2010
Petersburg, MI; SYS-TEC Corporation
and NASA have completed a testing program where 2D Datamatrix marked samples,
coated with Shield Products Superior Shield, were flown into space and
affixed to the International Space Station. The test program was called
MISSE 6.
The marks were made using various marking processes on small, round aluminum
discs. Two of each mark was made, one for flight, and one for a test standard.
All marks were graded using an electronic verification system so comparisons
could be made post flight. The discs were then placed in a Passive Experiment
Container (PEC) that was flown into space on space shuttle orbiter Endeavour
on March 11, 2008. These cases were attached to the outside of the International
Space Station. These marks were left exposed to the harsh environments
of space for 18 months. Atomic oxygen, solar UV radiation, and spatial
impact are just some of the conditions that these marks were exposed to.
The marked samples were retrieved by space shuttle Discovery and brought
back to Earth on September 11, 2009. They were then inspected for damage
or deterioration and graded using the same verification equipment. Upon
inspection, all marks that were coated with Superior Shield looked just
as they had pre-flight. They received the same grades as they had initially.
Comparable marks that were not coated were unreadable or faded to a point
where you couldnt see the mark anymore. Superior Shield exceeded
our expectations. It is now our standard product for all government and
commercial clear coat applications, says Richard Perron, President
of SYS-TEC.

Mr. Diefendorf,
Just wanted to take a few moments to thank you for your product "Super
Shield" and to give you an update on its application within our plant.
As you know, we have had a continuous problem with rust accumulation on
our chain lines in our evisceration department. The USDA has also taken
note of this problem and has requested we correct the situation as soon
as possible. After trying numerous methods to remove the rust, (all without
success), we heard about your product "Super Shield" and felt
we should give it a try. We applied "Super Shield" to our chains
with point brushes and set up occurred within 6 hours. The "Super
Shield" completely enclosed the rust within a clear, hard as nails
top coat. The preparation and application of your product was uncomplicated
and time efficient. The USDA approved our application of "Super Shield"
and was quite pleased with its results. Your product allowed us to save
both time and money by not having to replace our chains due to the rust.
Thanks again for the "Super Shield" and know we plan to continue
using your product in other problem areas of our plant in the future.
Sincerely,
Philip L. Stuart

We still are amazed
every day we use your products. Using the Superior Shield over the Fluoroblend
as a primer gives it that seal and gloss they like. Not to mention the
durability. The man responsible for allowing us to try it has said he
only has one regret about it---not listening and trying it sooner.
Thanks for all you're
doing

Lucent Technology (AT&T)
Building, Orlando, Florida
Gayle Lyautey - Building Manager
Tested patterns applied in 1987
- No prepping was done - just
wiped off test area
- Used clear Super Shield
right on paint and rusted area
- No weepage from rust - no
seepage
- Medium gloss was used
- No chalking - no fading
- Never washed the Super Shield
during testing period
July 1994 applied Super Shield
on whole building, roughly 2 million square feet
- Has not cleaned the building
since application
- No chalking or fading
- Gayle demands Super Shield
in any new construction they do
- Used Blue Super Shield
Did not test any competing
products, was convinced Super Shield would work
Talked to a couple of suppliers
of competing fluoropolymer products but the cost were prohibitive. $3-400
per gallon. Super Shield was 1/2 the cost or more to the competitors.

Dear Bob,
I service boats from Jupiter to Ft. Lauderdale FL. I have used your products
for many various tasks. Each time I use a new product of yours I am extremely
satisfied. The products I have used in the course of my jobs include:

Dear Bob,
Just a note to let
you know how very pleased we are with the products you have been supplying
to us. The combination of the all purpose metal polish and Super Shield
clear coat is fantastic for silver plated items. It allows us to polish
the items and then seal them directly over the polished surface. Because
of the durability of the Super Shield, the item then does not require
any further polishing. This presents a tremendous cost savings to people
that use silver items on a regular basis, as it virtually eliminates all
of their maintenance.
Thank you for all
your technical support in getting us started with these excellent products.
Best Regards,
Wayne C. Snyder

By the way, the ceramic tile turned out stunning. I have a full stone
fireplace and chimney on my log home and have always wanted something
to seal the stone with that will also bring out the colors in the stone.
I can tell I am going to have a LOT of fun with this material both for
personal
use and in my business.
Regards
Mike French

Message: Years ago I purchased a product I believe called Super Shield
which was a 2 part clear coating that I used on the brass and bronze parts
of my 1965 wooden sailboat. Is this product no longer available? Do you
have a successor product that works? It was a great product.
Thanks ~ russ

Message: In 2002 I purchased a quart of Superior Shield top coat and used
it to protect the bronze port frames on my sailboat. I have been completely
thrilled with the protection that the product has provided. I plan to
replace the windows this winter and would like to recoat the ports. Is
the Super Shield top coat still available?

Your products, especially
Super Shield, is more than what its labeled to be. I now can see
the color of roof tiles that mold was slowly covering. The color was from
gray to black. You were so right in proving to me my roof could look as
good as the day it was installed. That was l932! It was also the best
idea to use Super Shield on all the bricks on the side of the house .
The mortar was beginning to absorb the moisture whenever it rained penetrating
through the walls creating unwanted humidity. I am just totally pleased
with your products and highly recommend it to everyone. And, I thank you,
Bob Diefendorf, you not only saved my roof, but the whole house.
Respectfully,
David Collari

This is what I know
we did with the Superior Shield. We tested it on the outer skin of the
HU-25 Falcon Jet. It was applied directly over a Tesa 6973 PV6 label.
The aircraft flew 190 some hours and the labels were not wind worn or
damaged in any way, where as the labels that were not protected with the
Superior Shield were worn away, (some completely). We had tested many
off shelf brands of clear coat, some provided protection to the label
but showed visible erosion on its surface from wind and sand particles,
causing the visibility of the protected label to become unreadable. We
have conducted some UV test and so far they are all showing zero effect
from UV. Don Roxby has a sample up in space right now and has done some
testing on the last NASA mission doing further testing for exposure and
UV degradation for the Superior Shield product.
We have also taken the product under water. We are using the Superior
Shield on the Tesa Label that has been applied on the lower unit and gear
boxes for our outboard engines for the small boats. Our original test
was done in the Baltimore Harbor. The labels stayed in the water for almost
a year with the boats doing regular training and real world missions.
On the periodic checks all we had to do was to wipe the surfaces clean
of algae and the labels were still reading an "A" grade, So
we have tested the product in Minus 48 degrees at MACH .7 and taking into
consideration the dirt particles, salt water spray, and UV exposure and
under water in the Baltimore Harbor with brackish to salt water and with
the boats being underway at fairly high speeds with no sign of erosion
or wear. I believe the water temps ranged from 38 to 69 degrees (F) during
these test.
Thanks
